Dream Farm Commons is seeking proposals for You Meaning Me, a month long series of site-based performative works to take place in Downtown Oakland, California in May 2020.

Through a series of performative works, You Meaning Me will address the social conditions and historical context of living in contemporary urban environments. Selected proposals will be site-specific to the 15th Street location of our gallery space, sidewalks, parks, and other areas of Downtown Oakland. The duration of the proposed performance should be between 30 minutes to 8 hours in length. Applicants should be driven by the belief in the radical possibilities of site-based, public performative works and the reimagining of our shared spaces.

As examples, proposed performative works might include:

  • Body-based performance

  • Durational works

  • Creative activism

  • Experimental dance

  • Sound art

  • Spoken Performance

  • Social practice

Dream Farm Commons, the host and organizer of this event, located at 345 15th Street (between Webster and Franklin), is a site for radical imagination, for engagement with the visual, the poetic, the neighborhood and the future. 15th Street has become a unique site for creative resistance against the rapid gentrification of Downtown Oakland.

Applicants are invited to visit the gallery during open hours, and strongly encouraged to attend upcoming information sessions.

The deadline for submission December 1, 2019.
