WHAT MAKES A PLACES UNIQUE?

WHAT MEANING OF A BLOCK CAN AN ARTIST ELABORATE IN ONE WEEK?

For the month of July we have been delighted to host artist Hunter Franks in a residency at Dream Farm Commons. His practice consists of participatory installations, sculpture, social practice projects, printmaking, and illustration. He seeks to transform viewers into participants by inviting them to share introspections, hear other people’s stories, and recognize their shared humanity with those around them.

Since arriving at DFC, Hunter has been talking to people, drawing, and creating text-based pieces from conversations with the community here on 15th Street and capturing fleeting moments of The Life of the Block. By creating situations for people to listen to each other's stories he helps us open up space to reimagine social norms. He works in quiet small ways and ginormous acts, all from the heart. He says "As people begin to contemplate their own role in shaping culture, they begin to reimagine the possibilities present for connection, empathy, love, and joy within their own lives, their neighborhood, and their city...we are all far more similar than we are different."

Saturday July 13 we will continue with our Second Saturday programming here in 15th Street, a community meal, along with the opportunity to make text based work along side Hunter.
